Campaigns

Freeze out fuel poverty

Macmillan's fuel poverty campaign is calling on government to extend the Winter Fuel Payment to cancer patients in need. More than half of Macmillan Grants in Scotland go to help people with fuel costs and we want government to do more to help cancer patients who are struggling with increased fuel bills as a result of their diagnosis. To find out more and to support the campaign, go to www.macmillan.org.uk/fuelpoverty

Prescription charges campaign

Following a successful campaign by Macmillan and other organisations, the government is phasing out prescription charges for everyone in Scotland. The cost of prescriptions will be reduced every April and abolished altogether in April 2011. Until then, if you need regular prescriptions, either over a short period or longer term, Macmillan advises you to speak to your pharmacist about a Pre-Payment Certificate, which can bring down the cost considerably.

There are 2 million people living with or beyond cancer in the UK.

Volunteering

Volunteer photographer. Do you have an eye for a great photo? Do you understand what the media wants from an image? If you do then have Macmillan Cancer Support wants to hear from you.  We are Scotland's leading cancer support charity and we have lots of great stories that we need to have illustrated by some striking and engaging images.

We need someone who is creative and who will go the extra mile to get the best possible picture. You must be friendly and able to get the best from those you're photographing – and you can't be afraid to tell them what to do!

Your commitment would vary month to month, however as a very rough guide you might be asked to spend a few hours every four weeks capturing the images we need. You don't need your own transport, however you do need to be willing to travel reasonable distances either on public transport or with a Macmillan staff member. While most of your work will be completed out with Macmillan offices, you will still very much be part of the team and we would want you to come into meet with us regularly. Out of pocket expenses will be provided.

If you would like a copy of the full role description please contact Michelle Gallacher on 0131 260 3720 or mgallacher@macmillan.org.uk.
